Students promoted and educated their peers on the seven grandfather teachings, drumming and the importance of Mother nature. This day of learning and sharing was facilitated by Ms. Dawn Fielding, Native Language teacher.

“This was a wonderful opportunity for our grade 6 students to be leaders in learning; their enthusiasm and passion for sharing their cultural knowledge was infectious and my kindergarten friends were thrilled to create music with drums and learn about the importance of respecting our earth” said, Ms. Kelly Beaton, FDK teacher.

St. Charles College Kicks off Annual Food Drive Campaign!

If the students at St. Charles College and its feeder schools had their way – no one would go hungry in our community this year!

St. Charles College is kicking off their annual food drive at feeder schools St. David, St. John, St. Paul, Pius XII and Holy Trinity. For over three decades, they have been collecting cans to feed local families. Every year, they have surpassed their goal by collecting thousands of cans from the community.

The SCC contribution is always the largest single donation to the Sudbury Food Bank each year and the food bank has grown to rely on the major haul of cans and cash. We are asking for the community’s assistance in helping us, once again, surpass our goal.

Our students will be going out into the community in order to collect non-perishable food items. Please start collecting and feel free to drop off at St. Charles College. The kids will also be helping to bag groceries at Metro on Thursday, October 19th, Chris’ Independent on Friday, October 20th and Vrab’s Independent on Saturday, October 21st and are hoping to gather donations from the public at that time.

We look forward to once again this year, continuing to feed the needy and make a difference in our community.

Planting for a good cause! Twin Forks Community Garden visits Holy Trinity students

The Twin Forks Community Garden visited Mme Lawrence’s 1/2 French Immersion students of Holy Trinity School for the Catholic Education Week celebrations. The students were taught a gardening session in French where they learnt how to plant seeds and the ways to nurture them during their growth cycle. In the future month, students will donate two of their vegetable and flower plants to the Community Garden which will go towards helping those in need. What a great opportunity to make our community a better place!

Holy Trinity helps fight hunger

As part of the Catholic Education week activities, Mme Lawrence’s grade 1/2 French Immersion students from Holy Trinity handmade 83 sandwiches for the homeless of the Elgin Street Mission. They demonstrated in a hands-on fashion the virtues of stewardship, servant leadership and empathy. The students really enjoyed helping those in need in our community!
