French Immersion Christmas Scavenger Hunt at Holy Trinity School šŸ”Ž

This December, Holy Trinity School’s French immersion students embraced the holiday spirit with a festive Christmas scavenger hunt organized by Mme Durocher. The students enthusiastically moved from station to station, completing a series of engaging challengesā€”all while practicing their French language skills.

Filled with Christmas-themed tasks, the scavenger hunt sparked lively conversations about the holiday season and created an opportunity for students to enhance their language abilities in a fun and interactive way. The event was a joyful celebration of both language learning and the holiday season, leaving students with a sense of accomplishment and festive cheer.

Holy Trinity School Hosts Holiday Potluck for Multi-Language Learners and Their Families šŸ

On December 16, Holy Trinity School welcomed Multi-Language Learners (MLL) and their families to a festive and meaningful holiday potluck celebration. The event, which brought together students and their loved ones, provided a warm opportunity for fellowship, cultural exchange, and community bonding as families shared food and holiday cheer.

ā€œThis event was a beautiful reflection of the spirit of the season,ā€ said Colin Lapalme, Principal of Holy Trinity School. ā€œIt was a time for our MLL families to come together, share traditions, and build lasting connections. We are so grateful to our MLL students and families for making this evening special.ā€

The holiday potluck was made possible through the hard work and dedication of Ms. Bazinet, who organized the event. Her efforts ensured that the evening was filled with joy, creating lasting memories for all involved.

Holy Trinity School looks forward to continuing this event as an annual tradition, further strengthening the bonds within the school community.

Holy Trinity Students Recreate the Christmas Story in School-Wide Celebration āļø

Holy Trinity School’s Grade 5/6 students showcased their talent and spirit in a beautiful recreation of the Christmas story, presented to the school community in a memorable nativity play. The event, which also included a Christmas Mass, filled the air with warmth and holiday cheer.

The students took center stage, singing, reading, and acting to bring the timeless story of Christmas to life. Their performances captivated the audience and reminded everyone of the importance of the season.

The celebration was made possible through the hard work and dedication of the students and staff, with special recognition going to Mme. Therrien for her efforts in organizing this special event.

“Today’s celebration was a wonderful example of our students’ creativity, teamwork, and the sense of community that defines Holy Trinity,” said Colin Lapalme, Principal of Holy Trinity School. “We are grateful to everyone involved and wish all our families a joyous and peaceful holiday season.”

The staff, students, and families of Holy Trinity School extend their warmest wishes for a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Holy Trinity Students Collaborate with St. Charles College for Christmas Concert Rehearsal šŸ„

Students at Holy Trinity Catholic School are spreading holiday cheer through music, thanks to a special collaboration with St. Charles College. Mme Rossiā€™s Grade 2 French Immersion class partnered with Ms. P. Demore and the instrumental music program at St. Charles College to prepare for their upcoming Christmas Concert.

During the rehearsal session, students gained hands-on experience with key musical concepts, including rhythm, timing, proper percussion techniques, and stage presence. Under the guidance of the St. Charles College music team, the young musicians worked diligently to perfect their performance of Jingle Bell Rock, which they will proudly showcase at this weekā€™s Christmas Concert.

ā€œWe are incredibly grateful to Ms. Demore and the St. Charles College music program for sharing their time and expertise with our students. This experience not only strengthened their musical abilities but also highlighted the spirit of collaboration within our school community.ā€

This partnership between Holy Trinity and St. Charles College reflects the strong commitment to arts education and community connections within Sudbury Catholic Schools. The school looks forward to celebrating the studentsā€™ hard work and dedication at the upcoming concert.

Holy Trinity Students Learn About Advent Through Special Visit from Father Denis ā›Ŗļø

Today was a meaningful and faith-filled day for our Kindergarten students at Holy Trinity! We were blessed to welcome Father Denis into our classroom, where he shared the beauty and significance of the Advent season.

The children were eager to learn about the traditions of Advent, from the symbolism of the candles on the wreath to the ways we can prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus. Through stories and reflection, Father Denis helped deepen our understanding of this special time of year.

We are so grateful for his visit and for the opportunity to grow in faith together. Thank you, Father Denis, for guiding us on this journey of hope, love, joy, and peace!

St. Charles College and Holy Trinity Elementary Raise Over $20,000 for the Sudbury Food Bank šŸ„«Ā

St. Charles College (SCC) and Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School have wrapped up their annual canned food drive with remarkable success.

This year, the campaign raised $20,933 for the Sudbury Food Bank, along with 129,263 non-perishablefood items.

ā€œOur main lobby is overflowing with bins of non-perishable items, and students have spent days counting cans and donations. They are thrilled with the results!ā€ said organizer and teacher Jessica Demore.

ā€œSignificant time and careful planning go into organizing this fundraiser, and its remarkable success has inspired other schools to adopt similar initiativesā€”all in support of a great cause, ā€œshe added.

The canned food drive, a beloved SCC tradition for over a decade, reached new heights this year thanks to a meaningful partnership with Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School. The combined efforts made an even greater impact on local families in need.

ā€œWe are incredibly proud and deeply honoured to carry on this cherished tradition at St. Charles College,ā€ said SCC Principal Aaron Barry. ā€œThis outstanding achievement is a testament to the incredible impact students can make when working together. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our community members for their generosity. These donations will undoubtedly make a difference as we approach the holiday season.ā€

Sudbury Catholic School Students Raise $3350 for Habitat For Humanity!

Last month, over 300 Sudbury Catholic School students in Grades 4-6 used their critical thinking and innovation to submit entries in the forms of essays, stories, and poems on the topic of what HOME means to them as part of the Meaning of Home Contest sponsored by Chapman’s Ice Cream.

For every entry a student submitted, Chapman’s pledged to make a $10 donation on behalf of that student to Sudbury’s local Habitat for Humanity organization to help build safe and affordable homes for families in the Greater Sudbury community.Ā

With this contest, our students helped to build safe homes, but they also gained greater awareness surrounding the national issue of Canadaā€™s housing crisis that so many families struggle with all over Canada. By working together to make a local difference, our students were able to see how they can contribute to building a just society for others and grow as leaders in learning and faith.

As a result of the hard work and efforts completed by staff, educators, and elementary students, Sudbury Catholic Schools collectively raised $3350 to be donated to the Local Habitat for Humanity Chapter by Chapman’s Ice Cream.

“It was exciting to provide our learners with a meaningful activity that supported them into becoming more advanced writers. These writing tasks not only challenged our students to make a difference in the world around them by thinking creatively about the topic ā€”the meaning of homeā€” it showed that by working together, a simple action can produce extraordinary results.” ā€“ Peter Prochilo, SCDSB Superintendent of School EffectivenessĀ

In addition to helping families in Greater Sudbury, the contest was an opportunity that helped students live out and apply the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations – important principles that support Catholic students in becoming more responsible citizens and collaborative contributors in the community. The success of the contest clearly demonstrated how Sudbury Catholic School students understand these expectations and how to apply them in their life and in their education.

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board would like to thank all of our teachers and students for participating in this initiative. Collectively, our actions at Sudbury Catholic Schools resulted in a $3350 donation, but as a country we raised over $130,000 in corporate donations! Please refer to the Meaning of Home Thank You Letter!

We invite you to check out some of the wonderful entries submitted by our students!

When someone asks what HOME means to me one word comes to mind. LOVE. Home is where my mother and brother live with me.  What makes our home special is that my mother has worked so hard to design a new home that meets our needs.  From the day we hammered the SOLD sign in the ground till the day we moved in we visited it each and everyday to see its progress. When I am older, I want to be an architect, so I helped my mom design the house and worked with the blueprints. I even got to design my very own secret room downstairs. It was a ton of fun!

My home is not a place. Home has feelings. Feeling like relaxation, comfort, happiness and love. Home is where my family comes to visit, eat and spend time together. A home is where I can build memories and since our home is new the possibilities are endless. I am excited.

My home smells of fresh baking, homemade pasta sauce, a special candle or a fresh load of laundry.  When I enter the doors of my home I take a deep breath and smile.

My home is a place where we can all wind down sit on the couch in front of our fireplace and talk about how our day was. My home is where I can be myself. If I want to listen to my Genesis vinyl full blast I can.

I am so lucky to have a caring home filled with LOVE.

Sudbury Catholic Schools Gather Together For A Virtual Ash Wednesday Service

Our Lenten journey began on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2022, with Ash Wednesday! Sudbury Catholic District School Board honoured the start of this season with a morning prayer service. Our church tradition shares that on Ash Wednesday, we are invited to be marked with the sign of the cross on our foreheads. This symbolizes our understanding that we make mistakes and that we will take this time of Lent to grow in holiness, so we are prepared to celebrate Easter with great joy. Bishop Thomas Dowd also joined us and reinforced this message, reminding us that Lent is a time to make our hearts a worthy place for the Holy Spirit to live.

The day was also one where we joined in prayer for the situation in Ukraine. Pope Francis sent out an invitation for the world to join together for a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace. He asked that we especially pray for those suffering, be aware that we are all brothers and sisters, and implore God for an end to the war.

For those members of our community who were unable to attend our service yesterday, you can still participate by watching a virtual recording of our Ash Wednesday service. Weā€™ll also continue joining together for prayer on Monday mornings. We invite you to view the following poster to see a schedule of our future virtual prayer services taking place throughout Lent.
